As each child begins Corpus Christi Pre-School they will be supported by his/her own key worker. The development of a close and trusting relationship particularly during the initial settling period is important as they begin to separate from their parents often for the first time.

Getting to know each child’s family background, culture and special interests are the first steps to planning activities and experiences that will excite, inspire and motivate them to learn while having fun.

At Corpus Christi Pre-School we plan for childrens learning “In the moment”.

As the child is focussing on an activity of his/ her choice, each childcare practitioner understands that their role in the child’s learning is to observe closely, listen carefully, encouraging their determination and thinking skills. The practitioner will also become the child’s partner in their play or in the activity.

They are then in the best position to sensitively extend ideas if they feel there is an opportunity to discover something new or learn a new skill.

“Planning in the moment” shows the children that their thoughts and ideas are valued and that they can learn new skills at their own pace.

It gives children opportunities to learn by making links, taking risks, making mistakes and solving problems.
